When an editor misses being a reporter

This is me! I’m working on it!

And then:

I feel guilty that I let this go

So I’m going to try and bring this baby back during the summer.

Summer to do list:

1. Read. A lot. Fiction. Nonfiction. Newspapers. Novels. Autobiographies. Biographies. Anything.

2. Start blogging again: on here and with one of my newer projects: WereWhatsOn.weebly.com

3. Run The Pitt News. So much work.

4. Work at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. So much Marcellus Shale.

5. Have fun.

Remember the time I interviewed a porn star?

If you don’t know who James Deen is, you should seriously look him up — that is, unless you’re not into porn. Then maybe you’ll want to just pass over this entire post.

About a month ago, Good magazine ran this amazing profile on a porn star named James Deen. He’s kind of a big deal in the industry because he lacks the stereotypical looks of a male porn star. He gets a large female audience.

The Pitt News puts out a sex edition each Valentine’s Day, and I put it out there that I wanted to interview James Deen (also, I can’t refer to him as anything other than his full name). Everyone was really skeptical that I could make it happen.

Well, I am making it happen. Tweeted at him the other day and everything is just falling into place.

If only when I called him he wasn’t in the middle of shooting a porn. It was actually not as awkward as I thought it would be. #JournalistProblems

I’m movin’ on!

Got an internship with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. I’ll be interning with the award-winning Pipeline investigative team that looks into all things Marcellus Shale.

Consequently, I’ll be stepping down from Assistant News Editor at The Pitt News and moving over to become a copy editor.

Should be a fun semester. That has hints of sarcasm due to the overwhelming stress, but also actual genuineness because I get to take advantage of such an amazing opportunity.

Enjoyed the story, LOVED the correction

I know I shouldn’t like corrections, but this one was just too good to not love.

We’re What’s On is up and running!

Check out the new blog that the visual editor and I made that displays to everyone our love of television.

My first post is a recap of Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

I need cheap wine

I imagine journalists drink cheap wine when they face rejection from a newspaper.

So I guess that is how I will cope with internship rejections. I imagine there will be a lot, but I didn’t think ahead on how to prepare for rejection.

I should get used to it.
